1. Processing on the Mac
What Dockfit Reads
To keep windows within the visible area of a display, Dockfit reads, while arranging windows, the position, size and state (for example minimized or full screen) of the windows of running apps; the names and bundle IDs of running apps, in order to skip apps on the “Excluded Apps” list; the name, resolution and visible area of the connected displays; and, while a window is being dragged, the mouse position, in order to show the layout overview.
Memory Only
This information is processed exclusively in the Mac’s memory and discarded after each run. Dockfit does not read window contents, does not record keystrokes and does not take screenshots.
What Dockfit Stores
Only the app’s own settings are stored, for example the keyboard shortcut, the list of excluded apps, the layouts drawn for each display together with its name and identifier, and whether windows are tidied up automatically. They are kept in the app’s local settings (UserDefaults) on the Mac and do not leave the Mac.
2. Update Check
What Is Transmitted
If “Check for updates automatically” is turned on (default), Dockfit retrieves the file www.barnicom.de/downloads/dockfit/appcast.xml about once a day, and also when you choose “Check for Updates…”. As with any website request, the Mac technically has to transmit its IP address and an identifier containing the app and macOS version to our web server, which records them in server log files (see the website privacy policy). No other data is transmitted.
Legal Basis and Opting Out
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is providing bug fixes and security updates. The automatic update check can be turned off at any time in the Dockfit settings.
No Tracking, No Third Parties
There is no tracking, no profiling, no advertising and no disclosure to third parties.

Dockfit is provided via barnicom.de. The website privacy policy applies to the download.
3. “Accessibility” Permission
What the Access Is For
macOS only allows an app to move and resize the windows of other apps if it has been granted access under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Dockfit uses this access solely to read and set the position and size of windows.
Revoking Access
Turn off Dockfit under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, or remove it from the list with the “−” button. Dockfit will then no longer arrange any windows.
4. Your Rights
Rights under the GDPR
In connection with Dockfit, BARNICOM processes personal data only in the server log files of the update checks. Regardless of this, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Changes
Should the way Dockfit handles data change, this policy will be updated before the new version is released. Last updated: September 2026.
