The Challenge
In Brandenburg, aspiring anglers have to pass a state fishing exam. Preparing with printed question catalogs is cumbersome and outdated. There is no way to track your own learning progress or to simulate realistic exam conditions. A mobile solution was needed: an app you can use on the train, at the lake or in a waiting room, even without an internet connection.
Our Solution
We developed a mobile app with Apache Cordova and PhoneGap that was published for both iOS and Android from a single codebase:

Study Mode
Targeted learning instead of rote memorization:
- Topic-based: questions sorted by the 6 official subject areas
- Instant feedback: the correct answer with an explanation after each question
- Repetition system: incorrectly answered questions come up more often
- Bookmarks: mark difficult questions and review them specifically
Exam Simulation
Preparation under real conditions:
- Random question selection following the official exam scheme
- Timer set to the actual exam duration
- Same pass rules as in the real exam
- Detailed evaluation at the end
Fish Species Identification
Visual learning for the practical part:
- High-resolution images of all fish species relevant to the exam
- Identifying features and species that are easily confused
- Image-based quiz questions for species identification
- Profiles with closed seasons and minimum sizes
Works Offline
Fully usable without internet:
- All questions, images and explanations stored locally on the device
- Learning progress saved locally
- No data plan needed, ideal on the go
