The Challenge
Conventional motion detection systems suffer from a high false alarm rate. Wind, animals, changes in light, shadows, everything triggers alarms and leads to "alarm fatigue" among operators in alarm receiving centers. A mid-sized security company needed an intelligent solution that can distinguish real threats from harmless movement.
The requirement: image analysis software with its own AI that not only detects, but learns from the operators' daily work and improves itself.
Our Solution
We developed completely new image analysis software with an in-house AI engine:
In-House AI Engine
At the core of the software is an image processing algorithm we developed ourselves:
- Person detection: Detection of human silhouettes in real time
- Classification: Distinguishing people from animals, vehicles and environmental influences
- Zoning: Definable detection zones per camera with individual sensitivity
- Real-time processing: Analysis of video streams in all common formats without noticeable latency
Self-Learning System Through Operator Feedback
What sets it apart: the AI learns from the operators' daily work. When an operator marks an alarm as false or confirms a real alarm, this assessment flows directly back into the model:
- Positive feedback: Confirmed alarms reinforce the detection patterns
- Negative feedback: Events marked as false alarms train the filtering
- Continuous improvement: The AI becomes more accurate with every assessment
- Site-specific: The system learns the particular features of each camera location (trees, shadows, typical movement patterns)
The longer the system is in use, the more accurate it becomes, a decisive advantage over static algorithms.
Multi-Camera Platform
Support for heterogeneous camera infrastructures:
- Analog cameras via frame grabber cards
- IP cameras from all common manufacturers
- Multi-camera operation with hundreds of cameras on one platform
- Live view and archive access
Hardware Integration
Automated responses to detected events:
- Control of switch boxes for lights, barriers and gates
- Integration with intrusion alarm systems
- Alarm forwarding to alarm receiving centers via the alarm management system
Recording & Archiving
Complete recording and archiving functions:
- Continuous recording and event-based storage
- Fast access to live and archived images
- Export for securing evidence
The Result
- False alarm rate reduced by more than 80% within the first 3 months
- Continuous improvement, with another 40% fewer false alarms after 12 months
- Higher detection rate than standard market systems through site-specific learning
- In use worldwide in professional alarm receiving centers on three continents
