The Challenge
By default, Odoo fetches bank transactions through intermediaries such as Ponto, Enable Banking or Salt Edge. These services access bank accounts with their own credentials and sit between the company and its bank. For many German businesses, that means an additional contract partner with access to sensitive financial data.
German banks have long offered their own interface, FinTS, which accounting software also uses. For Odoo, there was no solution from a German provider.
Our Solution
We developed our own Odoo add-on that fetches account transactions directly from the bank via FinTS.
Direct connection to the bank
- No intermediary: Odoo talks directly to the bank’s FinTS server
- Registered product: “BARNICOM FinTS” is registered as a product with the Deutsche Kreditwirtschaft, the German banking industry committee
- Bank address filled in: after entering the bank code, the add-on prefills the server address from the Deutsche Kreditwirtschaft’s bank list
Security and approval
- pushTAN: convenient approval in the banking app, or TAN entry for chipTAN and smsTAN
- PIN as you choose: stored encrypted for automatic fetches, or asked for on every fetch
- Permissions: bank access is only visible to authorized users
Accounting
- Transactions as bank statement lines in the matching bank journal
- Duplicate transactions are detected and skipped on repeated fetches
- Scheduled fetching keeps payment reconciliation up to date
Result
With BARNICOM FinTS, Odoo fetches bank transactions directly from German banks without giving another service provider access to the accounts. The add-on can be operated via Odock or on your own servers.
