The Challenge
A global technology corporation that sells business hardware for office environments worldwide was looking for a way to expand its product portfolio with a security solution. The idea: hardware that is already present in every office would serve as a platform for video surveillance. Companies could then monitor their offices and buildings without additional dedicated surveillance hardware.
The challenge was considerable: a professional surveillance solution had to run on hardware designed primarily for other tasks. At the same time, the platform had to be able to compete with commercial surveillance stations in features, stability and usability.
Our Solution
We developed a complete video surveillance platform that runs directly on the corporation's business hardware:
Integration into Business Hardware
The software was specifically optimized for the customer's hardware platform:
- Resource-efficient design that runs alongside the hardware's normal operation
- Automatic detection of available system resources and dynamic adjustment of video quality
- Seamless integration into the hardware's existing management interface
- Installation and updates via the customer's existing deployment system
Web-Based Monitoring Center
All monitoring is done through a modern web interface:
- Live view with a configurable grid layout (1x1 to 4x4)
- Full-screen mode for individual cameras with PTZ control (if supported by the camera)
- Responsive design for access from desktop, tablet and smartphone
- Sequential view automatically rotates through defined camera groups
Multi-Camera Management
Management of any number of cameras from a central interface:
- Auto-discovery automatically finds ONVIF-compatible cameras on the network
- Camera groups allow logical organization by building, floor or area
- Status monitoring shows connection status, frame rate and network load for each camera
- Configuration templates for quick setup of cameras of the same type
Local Recording with Cloud Backup
A hybrid storage concept ensures maximum security:
- Local recording on the internal hard drive of the business hardware
- Configurable recording mode: continuous, event-triggered or scheduled
- Cloud backup transfers recordings encrypted to the customer's cloud
- Automatic storage management deletes the oldest recordings when space runs low (FIFO principle)
- Export function for individual clips as MP4 with a timestamp overlay
Motion Detection with Zones
Smart event detection reduces false alarms:
- Freely definable detection zones: mark the relevant areas in the camera image with a mouse click
- Adjustable sensitivity per zone and time of day
- Exclusion zones for areas with expected movement (e.g. trees, road traffic)
- Alerts via email, push notification or webhook to external systems
- Pre- and post-event recording also saves the seconds before and after the event
User and Permission Management
Granular access control for different user groups:
- Role-based permission model (administrator, operator, viewer)
- Camera assignment per user, so not every employee sees every camera
- LDAP/Active Directory integration for connecting to existing corporate directories
- Audit log records every access and every configuration change
- Two-factor authentication for remote access
